Melodie Curtains

I love these full length, cut for a diagonal window, tab-top, taffeta curtains. Antique door knobs will be added to hang them. Also, a dark green velveteen window cushion is not sewn yet. The 4" foam is very expensive because it is petroleum based, so the price is high and fluctuates. More feather pillows will be added as well. She's thinking gold colors. What an elegant room!

Happy Halloween = Sewing

This Halloween was on a Sunday, so we visited the sick, the widows, the down-trodden....and they gave us some candy while we were at their house.

I forgot to tell you about Cody's costume. He and I worked on this coat together on Friday night from 4pm-10:30pm. Good times.
He requested an "Organization 13" coat. It has something to do with a video game and people with personality disorders. I didn't ask questions, maybe I should have. It is suppose to have chains, but the chains I got were not perfect for him. He said that we can work on that for next year.

I used the pattern for the Matrix jacket and added a hood, widened the sleaves, and put a zipper in. I used 4 yards of black vinyl and a huge zipper from SAS. The total cost was $18 compared to the ones on-line that were hundreds of dollars. That's a deal! The vinyl was really stinky, like a petroleum smell, so we had to let it air out before we brought it in the house. Interesting.

I'm going to visit my Grandmother!

Amy was the best Little Red Riding Hood....in red heels. She wanted a red toile slip that only took 10 yards of toile. Two yards of red gingham, and she wore a white t-shirt underneath. Cute flowers for the shoulder straps. We used the old Christmas Belle red hood from Shelley's costume from years ago. It had white fur on the edges and we tore it off. This whole outfit took one evening to pull together.

Off With Your Head!

Marci and Loyd went to a party as the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter. They were the winners for best costumes, of course!

The Queen came together quite easily and only cost $31. The collar was the most challenging. I put fabric stiffener on lace and hand stitched it on the dress. It can be worn up or down.
I found the Mad Hatter's jacket at Goodwill for $6 and spent $2 on dye. It was lime green to start out with and a size 16 woman's. I took in the front where the darts were to make it look more manly and burned it with a lighter after dyeing it in a pot on the stove. Weird, I know. Added the ribbon, purple silky lining, black trim, and switched the buttons to the other side. I made the hat out of card board and put felt around it. Marci put together the hat trimmings and it looked great.

I wish you could see her shoes.

The White Queen

Shelley was the White Queen from "Alice in Wonderland". This was a really fun costume to make and Shelley really played the part well. Kids at the church Fall Festival were asking to have their picture taken with her. Anyone want to rent it for next year?

Book Bags

My Mia Maids sewed book bags that are reversible! I think they will be the coolest girls at school!

Little Rag Doll

This is my cousin, Kiana, who is a competitive dancer. She designed and helped sew this costume for her dance competition. She was awesome of course.

Make That Dress Longer

This cute dress from Ross was just a little too short, so we took out the hem, added a ribbon and some lace. Who knew?

Camp Purses

"Courage to Stand" is the theme for camp this year. This is the t-shirt and so I was asked to make all the girls a traveling purse to carry their schedule, water, snacks, etc. No lanyards this year. The lining of the purse is the same material as their PJs. I sure hope these purses are put to good use.

Book Nook

I made this book nook cushion and pillows about 3 years ago for a gal in Illinois. It is an antique youth bed frame. She purchased a 5" piece of foam to be covered. I put a huge 60" zipper in the back so it would be easy to get the cover on and off. She has a really angelic home and this was a nice addition to the reading room.

Amy the GGG...Good Witch

Amy played the part of Ga Linda the Good Witch in her school play. The dress was a one of kind with sequins going in every direction. We decided to donate it to the school because they do this play every year and they needed it.

Ok, I'm blogging today.

Here's life for the past...um, year. Cody & Amy are playing tennis, Shelley and Amy were in a show called "Curtains", and I sewed away, and I also did some bridesmaid dresses. I'm sure there were other things I did and I just might tell you about it tomorrow.
